The Egyptian Drug Authority met a delegation from the People’s Republic of China to enhance Egyptian-Chinese cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry. This was attended by Mr. Lu Chun Sheng, Minister-Counselor responsible for education affairs, Mr. Zhang Hua Sheng, Minister-Counselor responsible for science and technology affairs, Mr. Yuan Zhao, Second Secretary, and Ms. Jia Fang, Third Secretary and representative of the commercial office at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Arab Republic of Egypt. This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s continuous efforts to strengthen cooperation with various countries with major references in the pharmaceutical industry.

During the meeting, Dr. Yasin Ragaey, Assistant Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, highlighted the efforts exerted by the Egyptian Drug Authority to localize and deepen the pharmaceutical industries, especially innovative and biological products in the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as a number of initiatives that the Egyptian Drug Authority pays attention to, including localizing the industry of pharmaceutical raw materials. Cooperation enhancement between Egypt and China regarding the registration of herbal medicinal products and the issuance of the Egyptian herbal monograph “third edition” were also discussed, as well as the possibility of technology transfer and exchanging expertise in the pharmaceutical field for a number of biological products.

Mr. Lu Chun Sheng, Minister-Counselor responsible for education affairs, affirmed the Chinese side’s interest in submitting proposals to enhance pharmaceutical cooperation between the two countries, and in expanding the pharmaceutical industry and the existence of a number of Chinese companies that cooperate with companies and factories in Egypt specializing in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and medical devices. He also pointed out that China pays great attention to traditional medicine and herbal medicines and aspires to enhance cooperation in this field.

This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s keenness to support investment, increase access to pharmaceutical products in markets, achieve self-sufficiency in the local market for pharmaceutical products, and implement the state’s strategy for localizing pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical raw materials in Egypt.
