The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) announced the implementation of extensive inspection campaigns throughout October, in cooperation with regulatory and law enforcement bodies, as part of its ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and ensure the proper regulation of the pharmaceutical market.
The inspection campaigns, which covered approximately 22,951 pharmaceutical establishments across the governorates of Egypt—including pharmaceutical factories, companies, warehouses, contract manufacturing companies, public and private pharmacies, scientific offices, and stability and bioequivalence study centers—resulted in the detection of 2,953 violations and the filing of 1,834 police reports, including 24 related to online pharmaceutical offenses. All cases were referred to the competent prosecution for legal action in accordance with Law No. 127 of 1955 regulating the practice of pharmacy.
Additionally, in coordination with security authorities, the EDA conducted 538 specialized inspection campaigns as part of its regulatory plan, which led to the detection of 13 unlicensed pharmacies and 14 unlicensed warehouses.
In support of self-correction efforts, 1,119 corrective action plans submitted by non-compliant pharmaceutical establishments were approved and implemented after the necessary procedures were taken to rectify their status in accordance with approved regulations and standards.
Dr. Tamer El-Husseiny, Vice President of the Egyptian Drug Authority emphasized that the inspection campaigns reflect the Authority’s continuous commitment to protecting public health and ensuring the circulation of safe and effective medicines, while maintaining the highest standards of control over pharmaceutical facilities, warehouses, and factories.
He further stressed that the Egyptian Drug Authority attaches great importance to supporting non-compliant establishments in correcting their status and ensuring adherence to regulations, while at the same time taking all necessary legal measures against any violations that may endanger patient safety or contravene the law
