Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Holds Meeting with Director General of the Ivorian Authority for Pharmaceutical Products Regulation
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), held a virtual meeting with Dr. Assan Coulibaly, Director General of the Ivorian Authority for Pharmaceutical Products Regulation (AIRP), in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Sherif Saif, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Côte d’Ivoire, and with the participation of senior officials and experts from both sides. The meeting was held within the framework of strengthening regulatory and technical cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy expressed his appreciation for the efforts made to advance bilateral relations, emphasizing that institutional cooperation based on the exchange of expertise and the integration of roles represents a fundamental pillar in supporting public health systems across the African continent.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy reviewed the Egyptian Drug Authority’s pivotal regulatory role as the national body mandated to ensure the quality, efficacy, and safety of medicines, vaccines, and medical supplies. He also highlighted the Authority’s achievement of World Health Organization (WHO) Maturity Level 3 in regulating locally manufactured medicines and vaccines, reflecting the robustness of its governance framework, regulatory oversight, and adherence to international standards.
The Chairman further affirmed that Côte d’Ivoire represents a key partner in West Africa, noting promising opportunities for cooperation in regulatory reliance pathways, information exchange, capacity building, and facilitating market access for high-quality medical products.
For his part, Dr. Coulibaly expressed his appreciation for the progress achieved by the Egyptian Drug Authority, affirming the Ivorian Authority’s interest in strengthening joint cooperation and benefiting from Egyptian expertise in developing regulatory frameworks and enhancing the efficiency of technical personnel, in support of its path toward international recognition and accreditation.
This meeting comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s strategy to strengthen its regional presence, consolidate Egypt’s position as a leading hub in pharmaceutical regulation and industry across Africa, and translate institutional dialogue into structured cooperation that delivers tangible impact in support of public health for the peoples of the continent.
