Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the EDA, held a meeting with Dr. Sherif Nour, Chairman of AstraZeneca, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with global pharmaceutical companies operating in Egypt.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in localizing AstraZeneca’s pharmaceutical products in Egypt, highlighting the progress achieved in this area. Discussions also covered incentives to expand local manufacturing, contributing to technology transfer, enhancing production capabilities, and improving the quality of pharmaceutical products in line with global standards.
The discussions also touched upon efforts to position Egypt as a regional hub for pharmaceutical distribution across the African continent, leveraging its strategic location, advanced infrastructure, and the EDA’s robust regulatory and technical capabilities to support African markets.
In a related context, both sides reviewed opportunities to increase pharmaceutical exports to African countries and discussed mechanisms to enhance the access of Egyptian products into these markets. They also examined prospects for expanding AstraZeneca’s investments in Egypt, supporting national economic growth and sustainable development plans.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy emphasized that the localization of the pharmaceutical industry is a top priority within the EDA’s strategy to enhance national pharmaceutical security. He noted that Egypt possesses significant potential to become a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution.
He added that the Authority continues to develop its regulatory frameworks and streamline procedures to attract high-quality investments, facilitate the transfer of advanced global technologies, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian pharmaceutical products in regional and international markets, particularly within Africa.
For their part, AstraZeneca representatives expressed appreciation for the EDA’s efforts to advance the pharmaceutical regulatory system. They affirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and increasing its investments in the Egyptian market, supporting localization efforts, technology transfer, and ensuring the availability of high-quality pharmaceutical products.
