Efforts of the Egyptian Drug Authority in Strengthening the Licensing System during February 2026
- Implemented 394 licensing procedures for factories, pharmaceutical establishments, and warehouses.
- Issued 3,946 professional and administrative certificates for pharmacists, reflecting the Authority’s commitment to supporting and qualifying pharmacy personnel.
- Approved 370 procedures in the importers and third-party manufacturing registry and approved 207 importation plans.
- Handled 903 complaints and inquiries efficiently and with rapid response.
The Egyptian Drug Authority continues its efforts to develop the pharmaceutical work system and enhance the efficiency of licensing procedures. During February 2026, the Central Administration for Licensing Pharmaceutical Institutions achieved a number of tangible accomplishments in inspection, licensing, and services provided to pharmacists.
Regarding factory licenses, the General Administration for Factory Licensing conducted 41 inspections of pharmaceutical and medical supplies factories to issue or update technical operating licenses, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. These efforts were carried out in collaboration with the General Authority for Industrial Development, in accordance with Law No. 15 of 2017, its executive regulations, and the relevant regulatory decisions. These efforts resulted in the issuance of 6 new operating licenses and the technical license updates for 29 previously licensed factories and plasma collection centers.
As part of infrastructure review, the engineering drawings of 6 medical supplies and laboratory reagent factories, as well as 3 factories for cosmetics and disinfectants, were reviewed by the specialized committee formed under the Authority’s Chairman Decision No. 818 of 2025.
Regarding licensing of pharmaceutical establishments, the Administration, in coordination with the Authority’s branches across governorates, issued 150 new licenses for public and private pharmacies and their affiliated storage outlets, in addition to 87 ownership transfer licenses, 32 replacement licenses for lost or damaged ones, 17 licenses to amend engineering drawings, and 5 licenses to modify data. Moreover, 52 warehouse licenses were renewed, along with the renewal of a storage outlet license affiliated with a medicine warehouse.
For the regulation of warehouses and scientific offices, a new license was issued for a mediators’ warehouse, with 5 other licenses renewed. Licenses were also renewed for 6 main scientific offices, one bioequivalence center, and two stability centers.
In the context of digital transformation, the Authority continued providing services through the e-services platform launched in 2025, offering various licensing services to pharmacists at all Authority branches nationwide. Through the electronic platform, 3,033 certificates of pharmacy manager appointments, 49 new pharmacy opening certificates, 17 administrative certificates, and 11 experience certificates were issued for requests submitted through the licensing automation system.
For paper-based requests submitted by pharmacists, 305 certificates of pharmacy manager appointments were issued, 165 new pharmacy opening certificates, and 230 pharmacy ownership transfer certificates. Additionally, 15 pharmacy opening renewals and 85 ownership transfer certificates were processed, reflecting the integration of digital and paper-based systems to ensure flexible and convenient services for all stakeholders.
Regarding the importers registry, 17 new registration licenses, 223 re-registrations, and 79 renewals were issued, in addition to the approval of 207 pharmaceutical importation plans. Moreover, 5 new licenses were issued for third-party manufacturing companies, 23 licenses were renewed or updated, and 23 license amendments were issued.
At the customer service level, the Complaints Unit handled 59 incoming complaints through various channels, examined and responded to them, in addition to replying to 844 inquiries, demonstrating the Authority’s commitment to effective communication and improving service quality.
These efforts reflect the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to supporting the licensing system, ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical services, achieving the highest standards of drug safety and efficacy, and strengthening trust in the Egyptian pharmaceutical sector.
