"Egyptian Drug Authority Hosts Bayer International Delegation to Discuss Localizing Drug Manufacturing in Egypt and Boosting Local Drug Exports
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), today received a high-level delegation from Bayer International, led by Dr. Taygun Junay, Regional President of Consumer Health in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa, and Senior Vice President at Bayer Global.
The Bayer delegation included Dr. Mohamed Jalal, President of Bayer Consumer Health for the Middle East and Pakistan and Vice President of Bayer Global; Dr. Jasr Youssef, President of Bayer Consumer Health in Egypt, the UAE, and Kuwait; Dr. Stefan Batzel, Regional Finance Director for Consumer Health at Bayer in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; Dr. Maged Hosny El-Shiyab, Regional Registration Manager for the Middle East, Turkey, Africa, and Pakistan; and Dr. Abdelrahman Mohsen, Registration Manager for Egypt and the Levant. Dr. Amira Mahgoub, Head of the Central Operations Department, attended the meeting on behalf of the EDA.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in localizing the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt, as well as the steps taken to transfer the manufacturing of some Bayer products entirely to the Middle East and Africa region within Egypt. Bayer's plans to export locally manufactured pharmaceutical products were also discussed, contributing to transforming Egypt into a regional center for exporting drugs to the Middle East and African markets.
Following the meeting, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy stated that localizing the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt is a strategic priority for the authority at the present stage, noting that this approach aims to enhance local production capacity, reduce the import bill, and provide drugs to the Egyptian market at competitive prices. He added, ""This cooperation with Bayer reflects the authority's vision of transforming Egypt into a regional center for manufacturing and exporting drugs, which significantly contributes to achieving drug security in Egypt and increasing the competitiveness of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry at the regional and global levels.""
El-Ghamrawy expressed his optimism about deepening cooperation with global companies like Bayer, affirming that this cooperation represents a significant step towards attracting investments in the pharmaceutical sector, which positively impacts the Egyptian economy and enhances the availability of high-quality drugs in the Egyptian market. He also emphasized that the authority is committed to providing all forms of support to both global and local companies to ensure the sustainable success of the pharmaceutical sector in Egypt."
