A New Regional and International Achievement: Egyptian Drug Authority’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Designated as a WHO Regional Training Centre for Biomanufacturing
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has announced the official designation of its Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the Regional Training Centre (RTC) for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO) under the WHO Global Biomanufacturing Workforce Training Initiative. This designation is being implemented in collaboration with the German University in Cairo (GUC) and several leading local pharmaceutical manufacturers in Egypt that have successfully met WHO standards and have been approved as specialized training sites to support capacity building in biomanufacturing and biological products development.
This prestigious international recognition marks a defining milestone that reflects Egypt’s growing leadership and strategic role in advancing pharmaceutical capacity building, biomanufacturing excellence, and global health preparedness. It also represents a landmark achievement in the journey of CPD and the culmination of years of institutional work, strategic planning, scientific commitment, and dedication toward building a sustainable training ecosystem aligned with international standards and capable of meeting the rapidly evolving needs of the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
The designation further demonstrates the World Health Organization’s confidence in the Egyptian Drug Authority’s capabilities in professional development, regulatory sciences, pharmaceutical training, and international cooperation. It also confirms Egypt’s position as a regional hub for knowledge transfer, technical expertise, and workforce empowerment in the field of biomanufacturing and biological products development.
This achievement is the result of a long-standing institutional journey that included strengthening professional development systems and specialized pharmaceutical training programs, building effective international partnerships with global organizations, regulatory authorities, academic institutions, and pharmaceutical industry leaders, including collaboration with the German University in Cairo (GUC) and distinguished Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturers.
CPD has also implemented advanced training initiatives in vaccines, biologics, pharmaceutical quality systems, regulatory affairs, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), clinical research, and advanced manufacturing technologies. In parallel, the center invested significantly in scientific expertise, digital learning solutions, and modern educational methodologies, while supporting regulatory convergence and harmonization efforts across the Eastern Mediterranean Region to enhance workforce readiness and resilience in addressing future global health challenges.
This designation reaffirms Egypt’s expanding role in supporting health systems strengthening and human capacity development at both regional and global levels, in line with WHO’s vision of ensuring equitable access to vaccines, biologics, and advanced health technologies.
As the designated Regional Training Centre, CPD will play a pivotal role in enhancing regional biomanufacturing capabilities, strengthening vaccine and biologics production capacities, supporting technology transfer and innovation ecosystems, advancing regulatory excellence and quality assurance systems, and contributing to the development of resilient healthcare systems and improved pandemic preparedness across the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
This achievement further reinforces Egypt’s strategic position as a regional leader in pharmaceutical regulation, scientific advancement, and healthcare development. It reflects the successful vision of the Egyptian Drug Authority in positioning Egypt as a center of excellence for regulatory sciences and professional capacity building, while supporting sustainable development and strengthening its role as an influential regional and international platform for scientific advancement and healthcare innovation.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter in which CPD will continue to serve as a trusted regional and international platform for scientific advancement, professional empowerment, and sustainable healthcare development—moving toward a stronger future for biomanufacturing, health security, and equitable access to quality healthcare solutions across the Eastern Mediterranean Region and beyond.
