Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Receives the Ambassador of Sweden to Strengthen Cooperation and Support Strategic Partnership in the Pharmaceutical Sector
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Arab Republic of Egypt, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and follow up on the outcomes of the official visit of Sweden’s Minister of Health to Egypt. The meeting reflects the shared commitment of both sides to advancing their partnership toward more integrated and sustainable levels.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy welcomed the Swedish Ambassador, emphasizing the depth of Egyptian-Swedish relations and the Authority’s keenness to expand cooperation with international partners. He highlighted the importance of exchanging expertise and strengthening regulatory capacities in line with the latest international standards.
He also underscored the importance of technical cooperation with the Swedish Medical Products Agency to support the Authority’s efforts to achieve Maturity Level 4 (ML4), according to the World Health Organization (WHO) assessment. This reflects Egypt’s commitment to adopting international best regulatory practices.
For his part, Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt praised the notable progress made by the Egyptian Drug Authority in regulating the pharmaceutical market, expressing Sweden’s appreciation for the Authority’s pivotal regulatory role. He also affirmed Sweden’s support for strengthening Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub in the pharmaceutical industry, contributing to enhanced pharmaceutical security.
The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of the Swedish Minister of Health’s visit to Egypt and discussed mechanisms for activating joint cooperation, particularly in supporting Swedish companies operating in the Egyptian market and facilitating procedures for the supply of technical components for medical devices.
Both sides further emphasized Egypt’s strategic position as a gateway linking European, African, and Middle Eastern markets, which enhances opportunities for localizing advanced medical industries and supports investment plans in the pharmaceutical sector.
This meeting underscores the growing international confidence in Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system and reinforces the Egyptian Drug Authority’s position as a trusted partner in supporting pharmaceutical supply chains and attracting high-quality investments. It also contributes to the transfer and localization of advanced technologies, supporting national efforts to achieve pharmaceutical security and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation.
