Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, participated in the 10th edition of the Pharma Vision forum, held under the theme: “Healthcare Governance and the Pharmaceutical Industry Amid Global Crises and Wars.”
The event was organized by the Arab Association for the Development of Pharmacists, chaired by Dr. Samer Al-Refaie, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening the pharmaceutical system and achieving drug security in light of rapidly evolving global changes.
The event was attended by a number of parliamentary and executive leaders, as well as experts in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. Notable attendees included Dr. Mohamed El-Wahsh, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Dr. Hala Zayed, former Minister of Health and Population; Dr. Hany Rashed, Vice Chairman of the Healthcare Authority; Major General Anwar El-Safy, Chairman of Fixed Company; and Dr. Mohamed Essmat, Head of the Egypt Pharmacists Club. The forum also brought together senior officials from health authorities, representatives of major international and local pharmaceutical companies, as well as industry leaders, experts, and specialists—reflecting the forum’s importance as a platform for dialogue and exchange of perspectives among all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.
In his speech, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy emphasized that the selection of this theme reflects a growing awareness of the scale of interconnected global challenges that directly impact healthcare systems and pharmaceutical supply chains. He noted that the efficiency of healthcare systems is no longer measured solely by their ability to respond to crises, but also by their proactive preparedness and resilience in adapting to rapid changes.
He further explained that good governance represents a fundamental pillar for ensuring the sustainability of healthcare services, through clear regulatory frameworks, effective oversight systems, and data-driven decision-making mechanisms, all of which contribute to stability and enhance trust in the healthcare system.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy also reviewed the key pillars of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s work to strengthen drug security. These include supporting the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing to reduce reliance on imports, developing regulatory systems in line with the latest international standards, expanding digital transformation to accelerate procedures and improve efficiency, enhancing drug traceability systems to combat fraud and ensure product safety, and investing in human capacity building through specialized training programs.
He highlighted the vital role of the private sector as a key partner in achieving sustainable development, stressing that integration between the public and private sectors contributes to fostering innovation, increasing production capacity, and providing flexible solutions capable of addressing future crises and challenges.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy concluded his remarks by underscoring the importance of issuing actionable recommendations that would support healthcare governance across Arab countries, contributing to the development of more efficient and sustainable healthcare systems.
This participation comes as part of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s broader approach to maximizing the impact of its international engagements as effective platforms for knowledge exchange and strategic partnership building. These efforts support the development of pharmaceutical policies, enhance the healthcare system’s adaptability to global changes, and promote the adoption of innovative solutions aligned with future challenges.
