EDA Chairman Receives the Iraqi Minister of Health to Strengthen Bilateral Pharmaceutical Cooperation

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, welcomed H.E. Prof. Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, Minister of Health of the Republic of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation during an official visit aimed at reviewing Egypt’s pioneering experience in pharmaceutical regulation, registration, and oversight. The visit also sought to explore ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical, regulatory, and technical fields, in order to facilitate the availability of Egyptian pharmaceutical products in the Iraqi market.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghamrawy welcomed the Iraqi delegation, emphasizing the depth of the fraternal relations between Egypt and Iraq.He stated that the visit reflects the spirit of Arab cooperation, and highlighted the Egyptian Drug Authority’s achievements and expertise in developing regulatory systems, supporting national pharmaceutical industry, and facilitating access of Egyptian pharmaceutical products to international markets in line with global standards.
He stressed the importance of strengthening technical and strategic cooperation between the Egyptian Drug Authority and its Iraqi counterpart, noting that the exchange of experiences and practical expertise in pharmaceutical products registration and control contributes to improving regulatory performance and ensuring access to high-quality pharmaceutical products for citizens in both countries. He also underlined the importance of organizing joint training programs and specialized technical workshops to support Arab pharmaceutical professionals and unify regulatory standards and procedures, thereby promoting pharmaceutical integration across the region.
For their part, members of the Iraqi delegation expressed their great appreciation for the institutional and regulatory progress achieved by the Egyptian Drug Authority, affirming that Egypt’s experience serves as a leading Arab model to be emulated. They expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two authorities to exchange expertise and unify regulatory standards.
The meeting was attended from the EDA side by Dr. Yasin Ragaey, Assistant Chairman of the EDA for Media Affairs and Investment Support, and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Care, and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation, and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
From the Iraqi side, attendees included Dr. Abbas Khalaf, General Manager of Basra Health Directorate;
Dr. Rashid Najm, General Manager of Dhi Qar Health Directorate; Dr. Haider Hussein, General Manager of the Technical Department; Dr. Jawad Al-Khafaji, Iraqi Health Attaché; Dr. Saif Badr, Head of the Media Department; and Eng. Janab Abdulnabi, Head of the Relations Department at the Minister of Health’s Office.
This meeting comes as part of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its regional and international leadership role and to promote Arab cooperation towards harmonizing pharmaceutical regulatory policies across the region — contributing to achieving pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and improving healthcare quality for Arab citizens.
