EDA Chairman Signs Executive Framework for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Angolan Regulatory Authority to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Cooperation
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), signed the executive framework for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr. Mumbala Maimbele, Director of the Angolan Medicines Regulatory Authority (ARMED). The signing took place with the participation of Ambassador Nevine El-Husseiny, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Angola, and in the presence of Ambassador Makinto Lopes, Ambassador of Angola to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
This executive framework comes as part of the Authority’s strategy to strengthen international partnerships and expand engagement with African markets. It outlines clear mechanisms for joint cooperation, including the exchange of technical knowledge, the organization of specialized training programs, and support for capacity building. It also covers the development of regulatory systems in areas such as the registration of medical products, inspection, pharmaceutical regulation, and medical devices.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy emphasized the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with fellow African countries and exchanging expertise in regulatory fields, contributing to the development of the pharmaceutical system and the advancement of quality and safety standards.
For his part, Dr. Mumbala Maimbele expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with the Egyptian Drug Authority, highlighting the Angolan side’s interest in benefiting from Egypt’s expertise in developing regulatory systems and building capacities to enhance the efficiency of Angola’s healthcare system.
Ambassador Nevine El-Husseiny also praised this step, noting that it reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and opens new avenues for cooperation in the health sector in a manner that serves mutual interests.
This agreement reflects both parties’ commitment to strengthening regulatory cooperation and exchanging expertise in pharmaceutical regulation, contributing to the development and efficiency of regulatory systems and supporting access to safe and effective pharmaceutical products in both countries.
The framework will also support the entry of Egyptian pharmaceutical products into African markets, enhance the competitiveness of the national pharmaceutical industry, and promote principles of reliance and regulatory recognition. This, in turn, contributes to achieving pharmaceutical security and ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines.
The meeting concluded with mutual affirmation of the importance of unifying efforts and strengthening integration between regulatory authorities to support sustainable development in the healthcare sector and reinforce Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub in pharmaceutical regulation.
