EDA Holds Meeting with Distribution Companies to Follow Up on the Initiative for Withdrawing Expired Pharmaceuticals
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the EDA, convened an expanded meeting with several representatives of pharmaceutical distribution companies, including Dr. Mohamed Gazzarin, Chairman of Pharma Overseas, and Dr. William Mehany, Chairman of Ramco, to review the latest developments related to the implementation of the Authority’s decisions regulating the withdrawal of expired pharmaceutical products from the market, as part of ongoing efforts to bolster cooperation across the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy emphasized that the EDA continues to carry out its supervisory and regulatory role with full rigor to ensure proper regulation of the pharmaceutical market and safeguard public health. He stressed that the withdrawal of expired pharmaceuticals remains a top priority and affirmed that the Authority will not tolerate any non-compliant entity while continuing coordination with all relevant partners to ensure full market integrity.
He further noted that the success of the initiative depends on the commitment of all stakeholders within the pharmaceutical system to fulfilling their respective roles. He added that the current phase requires intensified efforts to accelerate implementation and achieve the targeted outcomes.
He also highlighted that the Authority is operating according to an integrated vision aimed at establishing a disciplined and sustainable pharmaceutical market based on transparency and governance, thereby enhancing public confidence in the quality and availability of pharmaceutical products.
Representatives of pharmaceutical distribution and trading companies expressed their sincere appreciation to the EDA for its efforts in monitoring and implementing the expired pharmaceuticals withdrawal initiative. They affirmed their full support for the Authority’s directives toward regulating and organizing the pharmaceutical market and praised its commitment to maintaining continuous coordination with all stakeholders in a manner that promotes market stability and serves the public interest.
The authority confirmed that it has enacted several regulatory measures to strengthen compliance and ensure the initiative is completed within the specified timeframe. While continuing periodic monitoring will continue to ensure market discipline, with a firm target to settle all compensations and conclude the initiative by the end of May.
