Egyptian Drug Authority and Saudi Deputy Minister of Industry Visit a Number of Egyptian Pharmaceutical Factories
Dr. Tamer Elhossieny, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), participated in a field visit by a Saudi delegation headed by H.E. Eng. Khalil bin Ibrahim bin Salamah, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to several Egyptian pharmaceutical factories, including Wadi El Nile Eshtio for Dialysis Filters and Utopia Pharmaceuticals.
The visit comes within the framework of the EDA’s efforts to enhance industrial and investment cooperation with Saudi Arabia and to open new horizons for partnership and integration in the pharmaceutical industry. It aims to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals and strengthening the pharmaceutical sectors in both brotherly countries.
At the beginning of the visit, Dr. Elhossieny welcomed the Saudi delegation, praising the deep fraternal relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and the continuous progress witnessed in both the industrial and pharmaceutical sectors. He emphasized that the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt is among the fastest-growing in the region and that cooperation with the Kingdom represents a strategic opportunity to achieve industrial integration and strengthen Arab pharmaceutical security.
Through such field visits to local factories, the Egyptian Drug Authority seeks to enhance the pharmaceutical investment environment in Egypt by providing regulatory facilitation and technical guidance to both local and foreign companies, with a focus on localizing modern technologies and promoting innovation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr. Elhossieny noted that the EDA continues to build strategic partnerships with regional and international entities to ensure the exchange of knowledge and expertise, thereby reinforcing Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing serving Arab health security and the shared interests of the Egyptian and Saudi peoples.
During the visit, the delegation reviewed the production and technical capabilities of the factories and received a detailed presentation on manufacturing systems and quality control measures. The Saudi side expressed appreciation for the advanced level achieved by the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry and praised the pivotal role of the EDA in developing the sector and enhancing its regional competitiveness.
The Saudi delegation commended the high level of technical and production advancement in Egyptian factories and acknowledged the significant efforts of the Egyptian Drug Authority in regulating the sector and boosting its competitiveness. They emphasized that cooperation with Egypt represents an exemplary model for industrial and investment partnership between the two countries. The visit provided an opportunity to observe best practices in manufacturing and quality control, which they described as a regional benchmark.

• Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access
• Dr. Amira Mahjoub, Head of the Central Administration for Inspection of Pharmaceutical Establishments
• Representatives from the General Administration of Public Relations and International Cooperation, and the Investment Support Department
This visit underscores the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to supporting and strengthening industrial and investment cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It also reflects the Authority’s active role in developing the pharmaceutical sector and localizing modern technologies in Egypt, further consolidating its position as a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
