Egyptian Drug Authority Chairman Participates in Launching the North Africa Drug Regulatory Procedures Harmonization Initiative (NA-MRH) through its First Preparatory Meeting
A delegation from the Egyptian Drug Authority, headed by Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Authority, today inaugurated its participation in the preparatory meeting to launch the North Africa Drug Regulatory Procedures Harmonization Initiative (NA-MRH). The meeting is being held in the Republic of Tunisia from April 16-18, 2024, and is attended by the heads of regulatory agencies in North African countries, as well as representatives of the African Union Commission, the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), the World Health Organization, and representatives of similar regulatory harmonization initiatives in the East, West, Central, and Southern African regions.
The meeting is expected to discuss the objectives and achievements of the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) program of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), the challenges facing the program since its inception in 2009, with a focus on achieving a state of regulatory convergence and harmonization among drug regulatory agencies in the North Africa region.
In his speech, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, expressed the Authority's welcome and support for the initiative, stressing the importance of achieving uniformity and consistency in regulatory procedures, in addition to the exchange of information and expertise, which contributes to building the capacity of African regulatory entities and their integration. This will have a positive impact on the provision of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines to citizens across the African continent.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority's continuous efforts to cooperate with all regional organizations in all fields related to medical preparations and to support regulatory systems in the African continent.
