"The Egyptian Drug Authority Issues the Gastrointestinal Medicines Section of the Egyptian Drug Formulary
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) announced the issuance of the section dedicated to gastrointestinal (GI) medicines within the Egyptian Drug Formulary, which serves as an accredited reference for pharmacists and healthcare professionals to access the latest information on medication use in the Egyptian market.
The issuance of this section aims to provide pharmacists and specialists with accurate and up-to-date scientific information that supports the rational use of medicines, enhances the efficiency of pharmaceutical practice, improves the quality of healthcare services provided to patients, and ensures the optimal use of resources—thereby reducing overall medical costs and improving quality of life.
The section includes information on registered medicines used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, covering therapeutic categories such as antidiarrheals, antiemetics, antiflatulents, antispasmodics, bile and liver treatments, acid suppressants, anti-inflammatory agents for intestinal conditions, and laxatives.
It also provides detailed information on each drug’s pharmacological classification, indications, dosages and adjustments, methods of administration or preparation, key drug interactions, contraindications, warnings and precautions, side effects, and storage requirements.
This comes within the framework of the EDA’s ongoing efforts to regulate and standardize pharmaceutical practices, and to provide unified and verified reference information at both the national and international levels. These efforts support the rational and optimal use of medicines and contribute to achieving the highest standards of pharmaceutical care.
