The Egyptian Drug Authority issues the Guidelines for Enhancing Antimicrobial Use in the Treatment of Dermatological Infections
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has issued the National Treatment Guidance for Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, which is the ninth guideline in the series dedicated to the Rational Use of Antimicrobials.
This was done in collaboration with a selection of experts in the fields of infectious diseases and antibiotics.
The Guidance aims to direct the optimal use of antimicrobials in the most common skin infections and limit the phenomenon of antimicrobial resistance. It achieves this by adopting treatment protocols based on the latest scientific evidence and compatible with the medicines available in Egypt, while taking into account the World Health Organization's (WHO) AWaRe classification for antibiotics.
The Guidance includes the treatment protocols for Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, covering both cases that require in-hospital treatment and those that can be managed on an outpatient basis.
It also specifies the recommended dosages and duration of treatment for each condition. The development of Rational Antimicrobial Use Guidance comes within the framework of the EDA's commitment to developing pharmaceutical services to ensure the highest levels of patient care and safety, and to promote the optimal use of medicine in accordance with international/ standards, striving to advance the pharmacy profession in Egypt.
