20 October 2024
The Egyptian Drug Authority has released the Eighth National Guidance for the Rational Use of Antimicrobials, titled "National Guidance for the Rational Use of Duplicate Antimicrobial Therapy." This guide aims to promote the rational use of antimicrobials, particularly from the beta-lactam class with repeated spectrum, and provides clear instructions on the use of antibiotics in treating aerobic bacteria and Pseudomonas bacteria, along with performance indicators. It also offers concise, targeted messages for rationalizing the use of these antimicrobial agents.
This release is part of the Egyptian Drug Authority's efforts to enhance pharmaceutical services provided to patients, with a focus on the optimal use of medications, especially antimicrobials, ensuring the highest levels of healthcare and patient safety. The guide seeks to align medication use with global standards, contributing to the improvement of healthcare services and the advancement of the pharmacy profession.
Given the growing global challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance, this guide represents an important step in addressing the issue by promoting more prudent use of medications and reducing the risks of bacterial resistance. This, in turn, positively impacts both individual health and the wider community.
