Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Discusses Localization of Advanced Pharmaceutical Industries and Oncology Medicines with Gypto Pharma, Shilpa, and Biomed Egypt
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), held an expanded meeting with Dr. Amr Mamdouh, Chairman of the Board of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical City “Gypto Pharma”; Dr. Ihab Wahba, Chairman of Biomed Egypt, the exclusive agent of Shilpa; and Mr. Vishnukant, Chief Executive Officer of Shilpa Global, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation and the localization of advanced pharmaceutical industries in Egypt, including oncology medicines and biological products.
The meeting reviewed executive plans for localizing the manufacture of oncology medicines and biological products in Egypt, in line with Gypto Pharma’s national role in supporting drug security and strengthening the local pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem.
Discussions also addressed issues related to the availability of priority medicines for Egyptian patients, as well as the companies’ expansion plans in the Egyptian market, particularly those aimed at supporting local manufacturing, increasing production capacity, and transferring advanced technologies.
During the meeting, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy emphasized that the Egyptian Drug Authority places great importance on localizing advanced pharmaceutical industries and creating an enabling and attractive environment for both local and international investment in the pharmaceutical sector. He noted that strengthening local production of oncology medicines and biological products represents a strategic step toward enhancing Egypt’s drug security and meeting patients’ needs with high efficiency and quality.
He added that the Authority is keen to provide all forms of technical and regulatory support to industry partners to facilitate the transfer of modern technologies and the expansion of production capacities, in a manner that serves the Egyptian market and the region as a whole.
The participating company representatives expressed their appreciation for the continued support provided by the Egyptian Drug Authority, highlighting the importance of partnership with Shilpa in transferring expertise and advanced technologies to the Egyptian market and enhancing national manufacturing capabilities.
The meeting falls within the framework of the state’s and the Egyptian Drug Authority’s strategic direction to strengthen local drug security and localize the manufacture of complex medicines and biological products, thereby reinforcing Egypt’s position as a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and trade.
