The Egyptian Drug Authority Participates in the Joint International Pharmaceutical Conference (JIPC 2026) at the Egyptian Chinese University
On behalf of Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), Dr. Tamer Elhossieny, Vice Chairman of the Authority, participated in the activities of the Joint International Pharmaceutical Conference (JIPC 2026), hosted by the Egyptian Chinese University (ECU) in cooperation with the Chinese CRACM Association, and held at the Al-Manara International Conference Center in Cairo. This participation comes within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts to enhance international scientific and research cooperation and to reaffirm the role of the Egyptian Drug Authority in developing the pharmaceutical system and advancing modern pharmaceutical practices.
During his speech, Dr. Elhossieny emphasized the importance of integration between academic institutions and regulatory authorities to support innovation in the pharmaceutical sector, promote the adoption of modern technologies, and expand the application of artificial intelligence in pharmaceutical development. These efforts contribute to improving healthcare quality and ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medicines.
He noted that the EDA’s vision is not limited to the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing alone, but also extends to the localization of raw materials and active pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as the transfer and localization of advanced pharmaceutical technologies. These efforts enhance drug security, support supply chain sustainability, and strengthen the competitiveness of the national pharmaceutical industry, in line with the state’s direction toward deepening local manufacturing and increasing export opportunities.
Dr. Elhossieny also commended the organization of this international scientific event, which addresses several strategic themes, including the integration of Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine in the era of artificial intelligence, drug development, modern pharmaceutical industries, and pharmaceutical practices within healthcare institutions.
The conference witnessed the participation of a distinguished group of academic and executive leaders, experts, and specialists in the fields of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals from Egypt and China. Attendees included Prof. Dr. Azza Agha, Honorary President of the Conference; Dr. Karima Abdel-Karim, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Chinese University; Prof. Dr. Rasha El-Khouly, President of the University; Prof. Dr. Mina Tadros, President of the Conference and Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Drug Technology at the University; and Prof. Dr. Samy Nassef, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Therapy.
From the Chinese side, participants included H.E. Mr. Lu Chunsheng, Educational Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Cairo; Prof. Dr. Cai Jianhuai, Secretary-General of CRACM and Supervisor of International Cooperation and Academic Affairs (China); and Dr. Cai Shijun, Secretary-General of CNMA (China).
National academic leaders also participated, including Prof. Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Former Vice President of Cairo University, and Former Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; and Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser Senjab, Professor of Pharmacognosy and Head of the Pharmaceutical Studies Sector Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities.
Representatives from universities and academic institutions included Prof. Dr. Omar El-Ahmady, Professor of Biochemistry and Former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Al-Azhar University; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Cairo University; Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Moaty Samra, Dean of the National Cancer Institute at Cairo University; Prof. Dr. Rehab Osman, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Ain Shams University; and Prof. Dr. Ihab Fattouh, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Egyptian Russian University.
From the pharmaceutical and medical industries sector, participants included Dr. Sherif El-Feel, Chairman of the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA), and Dr. Mohie Hafez, Chairman of the Medical Industries Export Council.
From professional syndicates, Dr. Mohamed El-Sheikh, Head of the Cairo Pharmacists Syndicate, and Dr. Nagwa Hashem, Head of the Giza Pharmacists Syndicate, also participated.
Additionally, Dr. Nesma El-Sayed, General Director of the General Administration for the Registration of Herbal Preparations at the Egyptian Drug Authority, participated as a speaker in the panel discussion entitled “Herbal Medicine: From Nature to Industry”, which was attended by representatives from Egypt, China, and the United Kingdom. During the session, she reviewed the regulatory framework governing the registration of herbal medicines in Egypt and the Authority’s efforts to ensure quality, safety, and efficacy, in addition to the integrated pre- and post-marketing surveillance system and manufacturing in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). She also highlighted ongoing updates to the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia and the Egyptian Herbal Monograph, discussed challenges related to market access, and emphasized the adoption of a scientific approach aligned with World Health Organization (WHO) standards and the latest international best practices.
The Egyptian Drug Authority affirmed that its participation in the conference reflects its commitment to supporting scientific platforms that enhance scientific research and pharmaceutical development, promote the exchange of expertise between national and international institutions, encourage innovation and the application of artificial intelligence in pharmaceutical fields, and advance evidence-based professional practices—reflecting the state’s orientation toward scientific openness and knowledge integration within the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
