EDA reaffirms its continued commitment to the complete execution of the initiative aimed at clearing the market of expired pharmaceutical products (the "Wash-out" initiative) from pharmacies
Important Statement
The Egyptian Drug Authority reaffirms its continued commitment to the complete execution of the initiative aimed at clearing the market of expired pharmaceutical products (the "Wash-out" initiative) from pharmacies.
Building upon the Authority’s previous commendation of manufacturing companies that have finalized the reimbursement of expired products to distributors, the Authority reaffirms its full commitment to taking all necessary measures until all manufacturing companies, pharmaceutical companies, and distributors complete compensation to pharmacies.
During a meeting held yesterday, Wednesday, at the EDA headquarters, Dr. Ali Al Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, emphasized to all heads of distribution companies the importance of expediting compensation to pharmacies during the current month of May, particularly as most manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies had already compensated distributors for their dues.
The Authority calls upon the remaining manufacturing companies to fulfil their commitments, followed by distribution companies compensating pharmacies before the end of May, in accordance with the binding agreement.
Finally, the Egyptian Drug Authority invites the entire pharmaceutical sector—including companies, manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies—to cooperate and provide the necessary support to overcome the challenges faced over the past 18 months. This collective effort is essential to conclude this unprecedented, large-scale operation to withdraw expired products from the market, ensuring the continued health and safety of Egyptian citizens.
