Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), participated in a high-level roundtable held in the presence of H.E. Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, and H.E. Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of the Republic of India.
The meeting discussed prospects for cooperation between Egypt and India in the fields of pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and explored ways to strengthen bilateral partnerships that serve the interests of both countries.
The event was attended by Dr. Hisham Satit, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply, and Technology Management (UPA); Dr. Hala Zayed, former Minister of Health and Population; and Ms. Mai Farid, Executive Director of the General Authority for Universal Health Insurance, along with representatives of leading Egyptian and Indian companies operating in the fields of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and medical supplies.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy emphasized that the meeting reflects the distinguished historical relations between Egypt and India and builds upon the productive cooperation between the two countries in pharmaceutical manufacturing and technical expertise exchange. He affirmed the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, in support of a robust healthcare system and shared pharmaceutical security.
He added that the EDA places special focus on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the pharmaceutical sector and works to create a stimulating, investor-friendly regulatory environment for global companies, particularly those with advanced expertise in technology transfer and the localization of biopharmaceutical and innovative product manufacturing. He noted that Egypt’s strong capabilities make it a promising regional destination for pharmaceutical investment.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy further explained that discussions with the Indian side come within the framework of the national strategy to promote pharmaceutical investment and localize biopharmaceutical industries, opening broad prospects for cooperation with major global companies. This, he said, will contribute to technology transfer and localization in Egypt and enable both the public and private sectors to play an effective role in achieving self-sufficiency in medicines while expanding exports to regional and global markets.
He added that the meeting also addressed opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two sides in the areas of pharmaceutical manufacturing, raw materials, technology transfer, and investment promotion, all of which will enhance local industry capabilities and support the ongoing development of the healthcare and pharmaceutical systems in both countries.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy concluded by emphasizing that the participation of the Egyptian Drug Authority in this meeting reflects its leading role in supporting international partnerships and adopting successful global experiences in pharmaceutical manufacturing, in line with the Egyptian State’s objectives to enhance pharmaceutical security and achieve sustainable development in the sector. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
