11th Meeting: 5th Egyptian Pharmacopoeia Updates
The Permanent Committee for the Drafting of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia convened its eleventh meeting today at the headquarters of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) in Agouza to review the latest developments concerning the preparation of the fifth edition of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Tamer Essam, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs; Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Egyptian Drug Authority and Chairman of the Committee; as well as other committee members comprising professors from Egyptian universities, experts from several governmental institutions, and specialists responsible for the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia portfolio within the Authority.
Discussions focused on the mechanisms for issuing the fifth edition of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia, in addition to reviewing the latest developments concerning its scientific content.
The meeting also addressed recent progress related to the development of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia mobile application and its associated electronic database, reflecting the Authority’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and enhancing accessibility to pharmacopoeial information.
Furthermore, participants reviewed the framework for international cooperation with the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the activities being coordinated with USP representatives following the signing of the bilateral cooperation agreement between the two organizations. The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of expertise in areas of mutual interest and support the implementation of internationally recognized standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products.
A detailed presentation was also delivered regarding the scientific and advisory services to be provided through the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia to support the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector in Egypt and contribute to strengthening its competitiveness and regulatory compliance.
These efforts are aligned with the Egyptian state's strategic vision to support and localize pharmaceutical manufacturing and to establish comprehensive regulatory frameworks, policies, and strategies governing the pharmaceutical market. They further underscore the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to developing a modern national pharmacopoeial reference that is harmonized with international standards and capable of supporting sustainable growth within the pharmaceutical sector.
