9th Meeting: Egyptian Pharmacopoeia Development
The Permanent Committee for the Drafting of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia convened its ninth meeting to review progress in the development of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia. The meeting was attended by Dr. Tamer Essam, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA); Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs; Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Egyptian Drug Authority; together with committee members comprising professors from Egyptian universities, experts from several governmental entities and institutions, and specialists from the Egyptian Drug Authority.
During the meeting, participants reviewed and discussed recent developments concerning the preparation and publication of both official and non-official monographs covering various categories, including pharmaceutical raw materials, human medicinal products, veterinary medicinal products, and herbal preparations. The committee also examined the latest progress related to the scientific and technical review activities conducted by specialists within the Authority, with the support of a number of subject matter experts.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the outcomes of the visit of the delegation from the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), headed by Dr. Ronald Piervincenzi, Chief Executive Officer of USP, to the Egyptian Drug Authority. Discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation and benefit from international expertise in support of the development of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia.
These efforts are aligned with Egypt's strategic vision to support and localize pharmaceutical manufacturing and to establish robust regulatory frameworks, policies, and strategies aimed at strengthening the pharmaceutical sector and enhancing its competitiveness.
