Chairman of the EDA Receives a Delegation from the United States Pharmacopeia to Explore Avenues for Enhanced Cooperation
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received a delegation from the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), headed by Dr. Venkat Surendra, Vice President for Regional and Program Operations (RPO), at the Authority’s headquarters in Mansouria. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Alessandro Salameh, Vice President and General Manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; as well as several senior officials from the Authority.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the ongoing collaborative programs between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the United States Pharmacopeia and discussed future initiatives aimed at achieving shared objectives in the regulation of medical products and supporting the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing in Egypt.
It is noteworthy that, in June of the previous year, the Egyptian Drug Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Pharmacopeia to strengthen bilateral cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise in regulatory and oversight activities. The partnership seeks to promote the implementation of internationally recognized standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products through the optimal utilization of available resources and the leveraging of U.S. expertise to support the development of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia.
The two parties also agreed to organize the second edition of the United States Pharmacopeia Conference in Egypt, further reinforcing scientific and regulatory collaboration between both institutions.
The visit comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s continuous efforts to strengthen cooperation with international organizations, reflecting its commitment to maintaining regional leadership and advancing the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing. It also underscores the depth of the strategic partnership between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the United States Pharmacopeia, one of the world’s leading pharmacopoeial institutions and a key reference for internationally recognized standards and best practices governing pharmaceutical quality and regulatory oversight, ultimately ensuring patient access to safe, effective, and quality-assured medicines.
