Egyptian Drug Authority Receives the Chief Executive Officer of the United States Pharmacopeia
Dr. Tamer Essam, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), and Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Authority, met with Dr. Ronald Piervincenzi, Chief Executive Officer of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP); Dr. Alessandro Salameh, General Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and Dr. Zakia Al-Kurdi, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and USP Liaison Officer.
During the meeting, both sides explored potential avenues for cooperation between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the United States Pharmacopeia across various regulatory fields. Discussions also focused on leveraging U.S. expertise to support Egypt’s efforts in developing a national pharmacopoeia aligned with internationally recognized standards and best practices.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the USP delegation conducted a technical tour of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s regulatory laboratories. The delegation commended the significant progress achieved in laboratory infrastructure and capabilities, praising the advanced technical capacities that position the laboratories to operate in accordance with the standards applied by reference regulatory authorities.
This engagement reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s ongoing commitment to establishing strategic partnerships with leading international regulatory organizations in order to remain aligned with emerging global regulatory developments and best practices. It also underscores the Authority’s dedication to harmonizing the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia with internationally recognized pharmacopoeial references, including the United States Pharmacopeia.
