Egyptian Drug Authority Signs Cooperation Agreement with the United States Pharmacopeia
Dr. Tamer Essam, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), witnessed the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), aimed at promoting the exchange of expertise in areas of mutual interest.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Egyptian Drug Authority by Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Authority, and on behalf of the United States Pharmacopeia by Dr. Ronald Piervincenzi, Chief Executive Officer of USP.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives from both organizations. Representing the Egyptian Drug Authority were Dr. Medhat El-Ghobashy, Advisor to the Chairman for Regulatory and Reference Laboratories Affairs; Dr. Osama Hatem, Director General of Public Relations and International Cooperation; and Dr. Lobna Salam, Supervisor of the Executive Office of the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia. Representing USP were Dr. Alessandro Salameh, General Manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and Dr. Zakia Al-Kurdi, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Public Policy for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and USP Liaison Officer.
The agreement provides a framework for strengthening bilateral cooperation and facilitating the exchange of expertise in regulatory and oversight activities. It also aims to support the implementation of internationally recognized standards to ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medical products through the optimal utilization of available resources.
The partnership reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s continued commitment to establishing strategic collaborations with leading international pharmaceutical organizations and to harmonizing the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia with globally recognized pharmacopoeial references. It is also aligned with Egypt’s national strategy to support and localize pharmaceutical manufacturing by establishing robust regulatory frameworks and policies that govern the pharmaceutical market and enhance the global competitiveness of Egyptian medical products.
