Egyptian Drug Authority Receives Delegation from the United States Pharmacopeia
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) received a delegation from the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), headed by Dr. Emily Kaine, Vice President of Health Services at the U.S.-based organization, on the sidelines of the Sixth Scientific Conference on Medicines Regulation in Africa (SCOMRA VI), held in the Arab Republic of Egypt from 5 to 7 December. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Abdullah, Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Affairs, Dr. Asmaa Fouad, Head of the Central Administration for Biological and Innovative Products and Clinical Trials, along with members of the U.S. delegation.
During the meeting, both sides discussed avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the United States Pharmacopeia, as well as supporting the Authority’s efforts to advance to the next
maturity level under the World Health Organization’s Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) framework for national regulatory authorities.
On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation toured the Egyptian Drug Authority’s laboratories in Mansouria. Members of the delegation commended the Authority’s considerable achievements and the notable progress attained in both regulatory procedures and infrastructure development, which contributed to Egypt’s successful attainment of the World Health Organization’s Maturity Level 3 (ML3) designation.
The visit reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s ongoing commitment to strengthening collaboration with international organizations and its aspiration to secure additional international recognitions and accreditations. Such achievements reinforce global confidence in Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system and pave the way for attracting further investment to the country’s pharmaceutical sector.
